About Us

We are a family of four living here in the treasure valley and have a 9 year old son and a 7 year old daughter. Our 9 year old son was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2. We like many families faced with autism have struggled for many years trying to find the best services possible for our son.

When our son was diagnosed with autism he was non-verbal and had severe sensory issues. He would not look at or acknowledge others except his mom. It took many years of trial and error in getting our son the right services. At times you question yourself, are you doing the right thing? Should I be doing more? Is this person working with my child the right person and do they really know what they are doing? These are some of the questions that you ask yourself when you are faced with getting help for your loved one.

Currently, we have seen our son making great strides especially over the last year by working to find and provide the best treatments and interventions. Our son is now in third grade and is main stream with the help of an aid. He has improved in all areas of his education and is currently at grade level. Also, he has started to build friendships with his peers. Less than a year ago when he was in second grade he could only read at a first grade level, currently he is reading above a third grade level and he reads a book or more each and every day. We truly believe that he will continue to improve and be able to live a full and meaningful life.

We truly believe that if we could have had a resource guide like the one that we have developed that our son would have improved faster. We look back on our struggles and feel that we wasted precious time that could have been spent helping our son. Some of the obstacles that we have faced over the last several years are finding the right provider, finding qualified professional therapists, and working with the school’s to get our son the education that we knew he was capable of receiving. If we would have had a resource showing us all the different options and information possible for our son we feel his improvement would have been that much more successful earlier on.

We feel very grateful for how much progress our son has made and we wanted to do something to give back to the Autism community. It is possible with the right intervention and with well trained and professional therapist working with your child that you can improve a child’s prognosis enormously. We hope that by creating this web site that it helps those families trying to find the right services and therapist for their loved one.

Mission

IdahoAutism.com (IA) is a resource guide with a purpose. Our hope in creating this website is to help families find the resources they need to help their loved ones suffering with autism. Everyone deserves the opportunity to know about the latest, best treatment and services that are available to them.

Vision

Our future vision for IdahoAutism.com is not only to continue to add additional resources and information about autism in the state of Idaho, but to have a resource guide for each and every state. In addition, we hope that in the near future we will be able to add workshops and seminars for Parents, Teachers, School Aids, Developmental Therapist and anyone and everyone that works with someone on the Autism Spectrum. We believe that knowledge is power and that continued education and training for those professionals that work with our children is so very crucial to their success. We truly hope by training and by working to set high standards for those that work with our children that we will help so many children live a full and prosperous life.
